**Updated – Wim Hof has completely changed my life during week one**

I’ve always been fascinated with the cold and cold showers and how they make me feel. I knew about the ‘ice-man’ a few years ago but never really researched that much more into it. It wasn’t until I saw the documentary on VICE and the Joe Rogan podcast that the science of it all came out. Having listened to all the science, I decided to invest in myself and brought the Wim Hof Method which Wim Hof teaches his method which has allowed him to break dozens of world records and continues to defy what was previously thought as impossible. Here is my Wim Hof Method review.

About Wim Hof (The Ice Man)

Wim Hof is re-writing what was previously known about the human body and it quite possibly doing some of the most important work in this field today. He has, to date, 20 world records and is currently traveling the world teaching what he knows.

Here is a short list of what he has done.

2007: He climbed to 6.7 kilometres (22,000 ft) altitude at Mount Everest wearing nothing but shorts and shoes.

2008: He broke his previous world record by staying immersed in ice for 1 hour, 13 minutes and 48 seconds at Guinness World Records 2008.

2009: In February Hof reached the top of Mount Kilimanjaro in his shorts within two days.
Hof completed a full marathon (42.195 kilometres (26.219 mi)), above the arctic circle in Finland, in temperatures close to −20 °C (−4 °F). Dressed in nothing but shorts, Hof finished in 5 hours and 25 minutes.

2010: Hof again broke the ice endurance record by standing fully immersed in ice for 1 hour and 44 minutes in Tokyo, Japan.

2011: Hof broke the ice endurance record twice, in Inzell in February and in New York in November. The Guinness World Record is now set for 1 hour and 52 minutes and 42 seconds by Hof. In September, Hof also ran a full marathon in the Namib Desert without water.

It’s because of these amazing events that he has attracted scientists to understand exactly what was going on while he was under these extreme conditions. Science has now confirmed the Wim Hof Method (more on this later) and the Wim Method is now going viral.

Vice made a documentary on him which is below. It’s a must-watch if you haven’t already seen it.

Here is my Wim Hof Method review. This post will be updated as I progress through the exercises in the course.

*What I experienced will likely differ than for everyone else as I was going through tough grief at the same time*

Week one gets you started with an introduction to the breathing technique Wim teaches. It’s this breathing technique that has blown me away and changed my life. Suffering from anxiety and depression throughout my life, I feel like this is what I’ve always been missing.

After a few rounds of breathing I burst out crying and couldn’t stop, like really couldn’t stop. After doing this breathing every day for a few weeks the results stayed the same – I just cried. I was having some sort of emotional release and I continued breathing every day until it was all out.

After each day of breathing, I felt so much lighter like a huge weight was off my shoulders.I started noticing changes in my day to day life, subtle but powerful changes.

I also had some crazy experiences while breathing. I remember I felt my face vibrating really strong, as I continued to breathe it got strong and strong. The vibration spread across my body and I felt a bit like the image below.

After the retention phase, I took a big inhale of oxygen and finished my exercise. I burst out laughing with tears streaming down my face. This is incredible.

I stayed with week one for a couple of months. I’m now bathing in this deep deep peace. I’m happy for no reason. I’ve never experienced anything like this before and it’s not good me. Here are a few comments from other people.

I have left a gap for the rest of the weeks. As discussed, they will be updated when I complete that week.

I will be taking my time throughout the course as I don’t want to rush through it and I hope to gain understanding of my body. I’m not really interested in ego images of my in the cold, I want to go deep inside myself and develop my peace and happiness further.

Fighting Disease

Wim believes with every cell in his body that these techniques can cure and prevent almost all disease and I’m starting to believe him. My depression was fixed within 3 days and my anxiety has disappeared.

How is this happening? When you do the deep breathing you can fill your cells with oxygen. We normally breathe too shallow and so not all of your body gets the proper oxygen needed. The breathing techniques allow this to happen. Because of this, you’re also raising the pH of your blood to a more alkaline state.

Once you have been breathing for around 30-40 deep breathes then you are able to hold your breath for much longer than you would normally do. This is because of the pH of your body has increased. So as time goes on the oxygen starts to fade in your system – it reduces from 100% to 90% to 80% and Wim has said his students can go down to 30% oxygen levels. This is when the reptilian brain comes up at those levels of oxygen it panics and releases adrenaline when you start breathing again.

This huge shot of adrenaline resets your bodies chemistry and you feel amazing. This is a very simple explanation of what is doing on. Feel free to listen to some podcasts on YouTube and Wim will explain it better.

While we are just at the start of this technique in terms of scientific validation I’m very confident the results will prove we are able to go deeper into our immune system and influence it to our benefit.

Wim currently has a lot of studies going on at the moment so it’s very exciting to be a part of this movement. I’ll update this section when papers come out.

Is it worth it

The course is $200 and this may seem like a lot for some people, one of the best investments you can make is with yourself. For $200 as the Facebook survey showed you may have better moods, less anxiety and better sleep, more energy and much more for $200. To me, that’s a no-brainer, $200 for a better life. Yes please.

A Personal Note

I have seen many people do stupid things in the Facebook Group. Please, please use your common sense. If your retention times are going down, don’t worry. Don’t try and hold your breath for longer just to beat yesterday’s score. This isn’t a competition, take it easy. Use your common sense, take it easy and enjoy going back into your roots and all the benefits that come with this.
